Interested in becoming a Mediator?

Volunteer Mediator Training will be held April 24-26, and May 1-3, 2008 in Newberry.  The training program is a 40-hour course approved by the State Court Administrative Office of the Michigan Supreme Court and required of volunteers mediating for the community dispute resolution program.

Topics include; negotiation skills, mediation skills, the mediation process, agreement writing, ethical issues, conflict resolution, and communication skills.  The course includes extensive hands-on activities and exercises.  Every participant takes part in practicing mediation via role-plays.  The course prepares volunteers to mediate for the Community Dispute Resolution Program and provides useful skills for anyone who wishes to resolve disputes peacefully.  It can be very helpful to managers, human resource personnel, teachers, youth leaders, law enforcement personnel, human services personnel, and community leaders.

Fee is waived for registered volunteers agreeing to volunteer 25 hours of mediation within two years following this training and an additional 10 hours of observing mediations.  Fee for non-CDRC volunteers is $650 for the 40-hour training.

Trainers are active mediators as well as approved and experienced mediation trainers.
