A six-hour Civil Law for Mediators training was held on May 4, 2011  in St. Ignace. Almost half of the volunteer mediators of the EUP Community Dispute Resolution Center participated.

The course was taught by Tim Hass, attorney, mediator and center volunteer.  The course fulfilled the Michigan State Court Administrative Office requirements for those already trained as community volunteer mediators to qualify for General Civil court mediator rosters.  It also helps the participants, and consequently this center, serve courts and mediation participants better.

This is the first time this course has been offered in the EUP, although a handful of center volunteers have taken it when offered by centers below the bridge.

Tim Hass volunteered his services, which allowed the center to offer this opportunity to volunteer mediators at no cost.  92nd District Court Magistrate Judy St. Louis also participated, and identified specifically how the procedures are followed here in that court.
